Equipping Our Little Humans to Be Better at Being Human!

Humans are incredible, yet our brains often act in ways designed for a primitive world—prioritising protection, whether physical, emotional, or mental. The AARMA Framework, the heart of the BETTER ME PROJECT, helps the next generation build the mindset and skillset they need to navigate and thrive in today’s unpredictable world.
Through the BETTER ME PROJECT, students develop tools to become Happy, Healthy, Helpful, and Hopeful individuals. From Year 4 to Year 12, they will build their personal AARMA Toolkit with strategies designed to foster resilience, growth, and community connection.

What does AARMA stand for?

A
is for AWARENESS
Our brains thrive on autopilot to conserve energy, but in challenging moments, students must shift into conscious awareness to make thoughtful choices. This domain encourages students to:
- Understand themselves: What am I thinking, feeling, and doing? Is this helpful right now?
- Be mindful of others: How is my behaviour affecting those around me?
- Recognise external influences: How are others’ behaviours affecting me? Can I manage my reaction?
By diagnosing situations objectively, students can prescribe better choices and take control of their brains with their minds.

A
is for ACCEPTANCE
In a world where media often challenges self-worth, students learn to find their value within. This includes:
- Accepting themselves: Everyone is beautifully imperfect, and that’s okay.
- Accepting reality: What’s done is done; the next step or choice I make now matters most.
- Respecting and accepting differences: Every individual deserves safety, respect, and value. Always be kind.

R
is for REGULATION
R is for REGULATION
Our primitive brain’s fight-or-flight response isn’t always helpful. Students will master strategies to notice, accept, and regulate emotions and behaviours for better outcomes. This includes:
- Controlling unhelpful emotions.
- Choosing constructive actions.
- Supporting others to self-regulate during emotional moments.

M
is for MOTIVATION
True success comes from intrinsic motivation – motivation from within. The BETTER ME PROJECT helps students discover what’s important to them and aligns their actions with being Happy, Healthy, Helpful, and Hopeful.
- Motivating themselves through their values and goals.
- Supporting others to find motivation when it’s hard to see.

A
is for ACCOUNTABILITY
Ultimately, we are responsible for our choices. The program emphasises that understanding behaviour is not an excuse but a path to improvement. Students learn to:
- Take ownership of their actions, thoughts, and behaviours.
- Hold others accountable in a respectful and constructive way.

equips students with Human AARMA, preparing them for personal success and empowering them to positively impact the world. After all, the future is literally in their hands!
